Illustrated Map for Shalom Farms

Shalom Farms approached me to commission a large-format (36”x48”) illustrated map to display at an upcoming event.

Shalom Farms is a nonprofit farm and food justice organization that works to provide meaningful access to fresh, healthy food for communities in Richmond, Virginia.

As part of the launch of their next five-year strategic plan, they needed an illustrated map of the local food system centered on the work of their Northside farm — and they needed it quickly.

The finished map needed to serve as an attention-grabbing art piece as well as a functional map that showcased the layout of the farm plus off-site partnerships and community locations.

I worked with them to bring their vision to life in a short timeframe. We skipped the cliché, idyllic farm imagery in favor of illustrations that, while stylized, accurately depict their status as working farm.
